Tomlinson Holman
Holman is an inventor who developed the Lucasfilm THX Division's THX
sound system for motion-picture theaters, Home THX, and the THX Digital Mastering Program.
He was also technical
director of the design phase of Skywalker Ranch. Holman holds six United
States and corresponding foreign patents licensed by more than fifty
companies. He holds fellowships from the Audio Engineering Society, the
British Kinematograph Sound and Television Society, and the Society of
Motion Picture and Television Engineers. He is a member of the
Acoustical Society of America and IEEE. He won the Samuel L. Warner
Medal and the Eastman Kodak Gold Medal from SMPTE, as well as the 1996
Career Achievement Award from the Cinema Audio Society.
Holman is the
author of Sound for Film and Television (1997). He is a professor in the
USC School of Cinema-Television and principal investigator of the
Integrated Media Systems Center of the USC School of Engineering. He is
president of TMH Corporation, where he develops entertainment
technology.
